Bike fitting offer at Racer Rosa

Big news! Velosolutions, the professional bike-fitting company, has moved into our premises - permanently! So now for one weekend each month we will welcome Giuseppe Giannecchini, the world leading professional bio-mechanic, to work in-house with our clients.

WHAT IS BIKE FITTING?
Professional Bike Fitting is a specialised science that is well established on the continent. Now it’s becoming well known in the UK too, but watch out for those "bike fitters" who rely on a computer programme and a 3-week crash course. Bike fitting takes years of experience and Giuseppe has fitted professional riders for many years (think the Tour and the Giro). This experience, in conjunction with the latest technologies, provides a unique and fully personalised fitting service.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A FITTING SESSION?
You don't need to be a pro... it makes sense for anyone who spends many hours on a bike, either commuting to work or weekend leisure rides, touring and sportives. We should not tolerate any stiffness or pain on a bike, riding must be a pleasure at all levels: even the most common niggles are a sign that something is wrong. If you have a pathology or simply an unusually shaped body you will be amazed by the difference a few millimetre’s correction can make.

If you are thinking of buying a new bike, either off-the-peg or made to measure, a bike fitting session is the way forward. Giuseppe will design the perfect geometry for you and he will put you in the right riding position. You can also benefit if you already have a bike and want to refine your set-up. Stem length, handlebars’ size and position in relation with the saddle, crank arms’ length, saddle height and set-back, body angles and cleats position are just a few of the vital adjustments to optimise your individual riding style and position.

DATES, PRICES AND... AN INTRODUCTORY OFFER!
Our fitting sessions are normally £199; but to celebrate our new collaboration with Velosolutions here at our premises in East London, Walthamstow E17, we are offering 15% off (only £169!) to all our clients who book a session from now till the end of 2013... This is also for new clients too, so please pass it on to whoever may be interested. You just need to apply by email or telephone..

The dates for the next few sessions:
Fri 8 / Sat 9 Nov 2013
Fri 6 / Sat 7 Dec 2013
Fri 17 / Sat 18 Jan 2014

Book fast! the places are filling up quickly...

A "new" 1958 Motoconfort

Here a beautiful summery tale: the story of an old French touring bike that came to London to find a new life.

Our client Nicolas wanted to restore his father's Motoconfort, which had been lying forgotten in his parents' garage, in France. Nicolas's Dad originally received this bike as a present for his graduation, in 1958. There are some original black and white photos documenting that year, as you can see below.

When Nicolas eventually managed to bring it to us in London, the bike was in a bit of a state, but under the layers of rust and dust, it wasn't too bad at all, considering the age - and all the components were the original ones. It also had the stem mounted tag with the name and address of the bike owner, a sort of French number-plate that was compulsory at the time for all cycles.

Most of the components - like the Normandy aluminum hubs and the ancient (and rare) Huret shifting system - came back to life after a good polish, some re-chroming and refurbishing, to good working order. Bikes were built to last in those days.

We sourced some decals and matched the original paint colour scheme, then re-built it as faithfully as we could. This project has been long, challenging and, yes, very expensive - but totally worth it. It is great to know that there are still people like Nicolas, with the passion to keep these pieces of history alive.

The result is a very beautiful and extremely rare example of a "new" 1958 French tourer. It's going to last happily for another 50 years and will bring that quintessential joie de vivre to Nicolas's future touring holidays. Bonnes vacances!

London to Brighton, ride with us

On Saturday 15 June Racer Rosa Team will ride London to Brighton and you are welcome to join ...this could potentially lead to the birth of a Racer Rosa Cycling Club, in the near future, so we can look at this as a sort of inaugural ride. Totally laid back and nothing too organised, it will be a "ride with us" style, open to you and your friends; any type of bikes and riders will be welcome.

We will start at 10am from Sydenham train station, in south London (handy overland from Highbury & Islington - Dalston, Hackney, etc.)... heading to Brighton to chill out on the beach for a while... this is the route we planned. Then it is up to you what you do afterwards, head back home by train or stay overnight... a few of us, for example, are probably camping overnight at this campsite, to ride back to London on the next day, Sunday - and everyone is welcome to join us.

Of course this is all depending on the weather... because if it is awful we'll postpone it.

If you're interested, please drop us a line by email and let us know how many people you're coming with, so we will give you all the details.... Remember this is not an organised event and you are riding at your own risk; you will need to take proper care on those roads. Please let us also know if you can't make it to this one, but would like to be informed about any future ride.

Happy Cycling!

Bespoked Bristol 2013 – a great vibe

We are back on our feet and almost recovered from a very intense weekend at Bespoked Bristol 2013 .

It's been another successful show, with a big increase in visitor attendance, in fact about 50% more than 2012, with over 6000 in total. We’re pleased to see that attention from the media is growing too - this article from the BBC is very significant.

We spent the three days chatting with a very knowledgeable public (nearly lost our voices). The show had a very enjoyable vibe and we love being part of this emerging cycling culture. We want to thank all the people who made it this year and came to say hello at our stand, it was great talking to all of you...

Put the date in your diary for next year, because the 2014 show promises to be even bigger and better.

Bespoked Bristol: 12-14 April 2013

This is the time of the year when every bicycle enthusiast from all over Europe heads to Bristol UK. In its third year, the Bespoked Bristol Show is promising to be bigger, better and busier than ever before.

Bespoked Bristol is a public event promoting the international hand-made bicycle industry. This is the place for the public and press to meet independent makers and designers. There will be the usual big names from all over, like Chas Roberts, Brian Rourke, Dario Pegoretti and Marco Bertoletti just to name a few, as well as the generation of relatively new frame builders and designers who in the last few years have been making the grade. There will also be a number of young new frame makers, always encouraged by this fantastic UK event.

We're happy to be part of it again and we will be showcasing some of our minimal and stylish display models, but also an innovative and beautiful Tourer made of, yes, aluminium - Dedacciai series 7000. Come and say hello if you're visiting (stand 18).

And this year the show will have a special feature: a bicycle will be made live at the show - hand-built by some of the best frame builders in the world - and it will be given out as a prize for one very lucky raffle winner! ...........All the details here.

We hope you have the chance to come along. Wishing you a great show!

13 MARCH 2013

A very Good Friday - 29th March

This month on Good Friday, 29th March 2013, the Herne Hill Velodrome will host the legendary
Good Friday Meeting, which has been running since 1903.

The historic South London Velodrome is the only 1948 London Olympics venue still in existence, it survives thanks to the recent "Save The Velodrome" campaign and has been beautifully renovated.

Snow blizzards permitting, this is going to be a fantastic day out for family and friends. You can watch a full day of races, enjoy drink and food stalls, picnics on the grass and bask in the aura of cycling history - and the sunshine too, hopefully!

There will be a little bicycle-paraphernalia market where you may find some vintage gems and Racer Rosa will have a stall too; we’ll be exhibiting our display models and selling some components too... so if you 're about, please do come say hello.
